CLASSIC CHAIRS COLLECTION FOR TEMPLE BAR

A golden opportunity to use this classic collection chair in a perfect 17th century setting. Temple bar, one of the original London gates was transported stone by stone back from the Hertfordshire estate where it had stood for almost 2 centuries. Rebuilt close to it's original position in Paternoster Square near St Paul's, ACADEMY was chosen as the perfect chair to complement the exquisite architecture of the refurbished building.

WALES & WALES DESIGNED BENCHES HELP REVITALISE GLASGOW GREEN

Glasgow City Council's Land Services approached Luke Hughes & Company Limited (LHCL) to put forward ideas for a range of benches and bins for their oldest park Glasgow Green.

GCC's approach to the park's renewal was based on the principle that good design of public spaces pays powerful dividends in raising the profile of their city and the simple enjoyment of its visitors and inhabitants.

The Cello range, consisting of benches with backs and arms, backless and armless seats in straight or curved plan (that could not be used as skateboard ramps) and a bin (capable of swallowing 13" pizza boxes) was designed by renowned designers Wales & Wales to meet this objective.

The ambience of Glasgow Green has dramatically improved. People are enjoying their visits. They feel safe, staying longer and even promenading at night to see the spectacularly floodlit Doulton Fountain, the largest and best example of a terracotta fountain remaining in the world. Recorded visitor numbers to the Peoples Palace Social Museum have doubled. It is one of the stopping off places for the City's tour and commercial tour buses. The outdoor events programme has increased, catering for 15,000 to 60,000. The Park Rangers are leading an increasingly popular programme of guided tours at weekends.

The benefits of the investment by Glasgow City Council, HLF, Historic Scotland, ERDF, the Headley Trust and 1805 Club are legion. Surrounding areas have and are being redeveloped, involving a private sector investment of £400M.

Four years later LHCL are still making the Cello benches for succeeding phases of this grand scheme .

WALES & WALES DESIGNED 'CHICO' BENCHES FOR CITY OF LONDON

Luke Hughes & Co have supplied Wales & Wales Chico benches and chairs to the City of London, as part of their Street Scene Strategy and ongoing refurbishment of the areas surrounding Guildhall and St Paul's Cathedral, since early 2003.

Apart from the standard benches and chairs, a number of three-seaters have been specially modified at the request of the City to provide a four-armed bench to assist the elderly and discourage sleepers and skateboarders.

The Chico can be seen in the St Paul's environs, outside St James Garlickhythe, in West Smithfield, Guildhall Yard East, Monument Street and most recently, Old Bailey.
