LUKE HUGHES & COMPANY 25TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY
More than 200 guests and friends gathered in the newly refurbished St George's Bloomsbury, our parish church, to celebrate 25 years in Covent Garden, and 20 as a limited company. Guests included shareholders, current and former employees, suppliers, press, architects, shareholders and even clents from 25 years ago - in fact all those who had helped the company get to where it is today.
The gathering was welcomed by the vicar of St George's, the Rev Perry Butler. Duncan Robinson (Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, and President of Magdalene College Cambridge) gave a short address about the cultural context of what had been achieved since the workshop first moved into the area. Ray Leigh MBE, founder chairman of Luke Hughes & Company Ltd and former chairman of Gordon Russell Ltd, spoke about the enormous contribution of both the craftsmen and designers involved, but also of the shareholders who had originally invested in the venture.
The party then moved down to the crypt for a long evening of champagne, food and jazz - sung by Adjoa Osuwu.
